Historical Timeline

When settlers first arrived in the Piedmont lower vally, they found hills sutable for building cabins with lush meadows, streams and the hills were crowned with trees. These trees were suitable for cabin building.  The Scotch-Irish in large numbers came from the northern states of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.  The Scotch-Irish also came from over seas.

To the few white families who moved in among the Catawba Indians, the indians were friendly to. The new settler´s stayed busy setting up cabins and cutting trees. They also burned acreage to plant crops and to set up any social functions for the settlement. This became an area for the local still and meeting house.

The 360-acre community of Charlotte moved to incorporate a regular town government and an eventual county seat.  On May 20, 1775, it is said, Charlotte patriots defied the wrath of the English King and signed a Declaration of Independence.

The Statues at the Square

At the square, you will find four bronze statues  were given by the Queens Table to the City of Charlotte, a private philanthropic group, most of whose members choose to remain anonymous.
